Walt Disney

"Walt Disney would not even dream that the mouse he drew would become so famous."

He was born in 1901, in Chicago city of the US. Being unable to complete his education due to financial incapability, Walt became an introvert and self-accusatory person upon losing his father as a result of a sickness. His interest in cartoons developed during this time and he joined free art courses. He improved his drawing, made some small cartoons but could not make money with them, either.

He went to Hollywood to realize his dream but success seemed almost impossible. The ongoing financial problems in addition have placed him literally in the middle of a bohemia. A mouse climbed as if dancing on the desk he put his head to sleep one night. Walt drew that mouse on a paper that night. And the world famous character "Mickey Mouse" was born that night. That mouse became a turning point for Walt, and enabled him to put his mark on many successful works afterwards. Later, he added new friends such as Goofy, Donald Duck and Pluto to Mickey Mouse.

Disney decided to open his own film studio in early 30's and founded Walt Disney Film Studios. In the fairy tale of Grimm Brothers, 570 painters drew over one million pictures one by one. Together with the accumulation of a giant mass of audience, Disney made a fortune which he could not even dream of only with this movie. The blockbuster movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 was the first color and talking cartoon movie. Pinocchio, which was also a blockbuster in 1940, rescued Disney studios from financial crisis. Disney both continued its successful works such as Bambi, and Alice in Wonderland, and also concentrated on moving pictures such as Treasure Island, and 20.000 Leagues under the sea.

Disney's art is expressed as the merger of lines with color, music and dance. Disney's vision was not limited with film and it was concentrated on Disneyland to be established in California. Disneyland was opened in 1955.
